My final presentation explained what the project was about, outlining my process and explaining the mockups I created which were: a mockup of an art gallery space with both main outcomes presented, a link to the website, a video of the website scrolled in sync with the lyrics of the song as well as it would be projected on a wall, a video of the tobe transitioning between the designs created over a revolutionary period, and a mockup brochure for the exhibit both showing the poem in English and Arabic side by side as well as a zoomed image of the textures in the order they were made. The one thing I didn’t present was a proposal for an art gallery as I was in the process of still writing it. Below is a link to all the visuals.

Feedback from the presentation using Miro:

  • “[Presenting the tobes] using a screen is better than your initial idea of using VR. It works much better in this sort of environment”.
  • “I think within this space there needs to be some more context. Text on the wall or something that adds more understanding to the two separate elements”. Therefore, I have added a description to the main mockup.
  • “when scrolling through the [website] the imagery doesn’t ever show a complete image, in that, it is always either parting from the top or bottom of the image. It would be cool to view the images used fully without any disruption to them”. In response to this, I have resized the images.
  • “[The website projected] is too big”. Therefore, I have resized it.
  • “[The website projected as a video on loop] doesn’t need people to be able to skip back/forward in it and potentially could just offer a discreet pause button if they want to cancel the sound”. However, the website music player offers this already; when you click on play the pause button appears and vice versa.
  • “To arrange a live reading of the poem at the exhibition it would be good to see the website scroll in time with this” and ” if the website auto scrolled along with the poem playing”. But, I have created a video that where the website is scrolling in sync with the song and I want to make it visible that this is a website when projected.
  • “I think within this space there needs to be some more context. Text on the wall or something that adds more understanding to the two separate elements”.
  • “[The brochure] the close up of the weave/pattern is a great compliment to how you see the whole garment on the screen and good use of print vs. screen”.
  • “I feel like you need to remove the V&A branding though – propose the project with its own identity. If it was at, for example, a Friday late then you wouldn’t be using V&A branding for your leaflet – even their large exhibition catalogues don’t tend to (they have their own graphic design applied – e.g. this catalog / book for their ‘power of making’ show https://www.vam.ac.uk/shop/power-of-making-the-importance-of-being-skilled.html)”. However, I intentionally added the V&A branding to illustrate how this colour would be embraced by a museum if they exhibited my work to show their support for this movement like those who changed their profile pictures blue.

Overall, the feedback was positive and I have made the necessary changes. I guess the one thing that amazed me was how well my peers could understand my project, that gave me some reassurance that it could be understood by an audience who are not from Sudan.
